This is
Hong Seok-Hyun,
Chairman of
JoongAng
Holdings

JoongAng Group has led
media innovations, charting
a
new course for the Korean
media industry.
We are the
only comprehensive media
group in Korea
which covers
diverse fields of media
including
newspapers,
broadcasting, magazines, and
new media.
We have been
leading the Korean media
industry based
on two axes,
with the JoongAng Ilbo,
Korea’s top daily
newspaper
and JTBC, which has risen to
claim the
number one position
among Korean broadcasters
for its
credibility and brand
recognition. We also publish
English newspaper called
Korea JoongAng Daily with
the
New York Times International
Edition, and are
partners with
the world's leading television
broadcasters
and magazines.
Based on this, we will be able
to push
beyond the domestic
market to grow as a global
media
for our readers and
viewers in Asia and the world.

We successfully ran TBC
(Tongyang
Broadcast Company),
the top
commercial broadcasting
company for
17 years until the
company was forced
to shutdown
based on the Media
Integration Act
enacted by the military
government
in September 1980. JTBC,
which
inherits the legacy, was launched
after coming in first in a
government
bid for new
comprehensive program
providers.
JTBC posted an earnings
surplus
within six years to become the
most influential medium in Korea. In
addition to reclaiming the TBC
legacy,
JTBC’s rise is in itself
something
remarkably meaningful.

The JoongAng Ilbo, the oldest
flagship
company under the group,
has led the
newspaper industry by
introducing a
professional reporter
system, switching
to the Berliner
format, and promoting
digital
innovation. JoongAng SUNDAY, a
high-quality weekend newspaper, is
catering to readers with high caliber
and thirst for in-depth articles.
We will continue to devote ourselves
to
leading social development and
present
a vision for a unified Korea
through the
right criticism of the
policy.
Furthermore, we will be the
eyes and
ears of our global readers
and viewers
on behalf of Korea and
Asia.

MEGABOX and PHOENIX HOTELS
&
RESORTS, the Group's two other
axes,
will bring about great winds of
change
in the Korean multiplex and
leisure
markets. Aligning ourselves
with the
JoongAng Ilbo and JTBC,
we will strive
to be the best in the
industry, to raise
our standards of
living and culture to
the next level.
I believe this will be the
best way to
thank you for all the love
and
support provided to us.

Thank you.

Hong Seok-Hyun,
Chairman of JoongAng Holdings
